India is so varied across every corner, so sorting by direction makes sense. The winter honeymoon destinations in India below are perfect for a different type of honeymoon - from snowy mountain tops to sunshine beaches to ancient desert fortresses. Check out our blog on destination wedding venues for more insights.
If snow is the whole deal, you are going north. All of the three winter honeymoon destinations in India below get booked out during December so you had better plan on visiting them much earlier than that.
Gulmarg, Kashmir: The nearest you'll come to a proper white winter in India. Take the gondola as high as the Apharwat ridge (roughly 3,900 m) and while the slopes below may not have snow all season, they will for sure if you learn to ski - which is just for the fun of laughing at each other.
Manali, Himachal Pradesh: It's where most first-time mountain couples find themselves, and you can understand why. Old Manali has café-lined roads along the river, and Solang Valley is just a bus ride away. Rohtang Pass closes in winter, but the Atal Tunnel whisks you through to snow-covered Sissu. Pro: it's popular, so roads are crowded on weekends and high season – factor in an extra day in case a closure takes a day off yours. Check out our blog on destination wedding weekend itinerary for more insights.
Auli, Uttarakhand: Manali, minus crowds, more mountain. On a clear morning, Nanda Devi, all 25,643 feet of her, fills the far horizon. A ropeway from Joshimath trawls up to the slopes, and Gorson Bugyal is the snow walk to take.
Warning: Joshimath has been suffering from disastrous land subsidence, so double-check road and ropeway operation before you buy.
To the east, it's two totally different moods: cool tea-country hills to tropical island with clear water. Scroll down to check out the winter honeymoon destinations in India based on East.
Darjeeling, West Bengal: Darjeeling is perfect for wandering pairs. Stroll through the tea gardens, catch the toy train to Ghum, and if you can convince yourself to get out of bed, gaze upon Tiger Hill at sunrise. Winter mornings on Tiger Hill can be crystal clear, or clad in dense fog – a Kanchenjunga sighting is a welcome bonus.
Andaman Islands: Ferries control your time here, so time it accordingly. 2 nights in Port Blair, 3 or 4 on Havelock for Radhanagar and Elephant Beach and 2 on Neil would be great. Being boats, they leave late at times; snorkelling is subject to how the sea is that day. Leave your last day open in case the ferry gets delayed to ensure it doesn't spoil your flight home.
Not everyone is a snow person. If pink-chapped cheeks and fluffy acorn hats aren't your thing, the south provides the perfect place for a slow, picturesque walkabout. Check out the winter destinations in India for couples:
Munnar, Kerala: Tea plantations blanket the slopes up to 1,600 m, stopping at panoramic viewpoints and enjoying scenic driving en route. It doesn't get much more relaxing than a houseboat in the backwaters near Alleppey or Kumarakom. (Kumarakom is less lively.) When you book, check whether the boat has AC overnight, what's included in the meals, and where the boat stops, because some are more private than others.
The east encompasses the greatest spectrum, from beach shacks to lakeside palaces to fortresses in the desert. Here are the winter destinations in India for couples:
Goa: Choose your side - North (Candolim, Anjuna, Vagator) and the beach shacks with the music or South (Palolem, Agonda) and the peace and quiet. Leave a day for Old Goa and Fontainhas. Book beach-facing stays early if you're visiting around Christmas or New Year - the rates go up and most places will also have a minimum stay rule.
Udaipur, Rajasthan: Udaipur is among the most romantic places in India for couples in the country and will appeal to the couples who would prefer the comfort and culture over adventure. Whether you take a boat ride on Pichola Lake, walk through the City Palace or have a rooftop dinner, Udaipur has a lot to offer.
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: In winter the sandstone fortress glows golden in the sunlight, and as dusk descends, the folk music spills out onto the Sam dunes. The desert is much cooler after the sun goes down, so check the tents, heating and bathrooms before you shell out for a camp. There aren't many flights into Jaisalmer so many couples connect through Jodhpur.

Both months are totally different experiences and each one is right for you depending on your budget and the weather you prefer and how you like to travel.
December is a perfect month for couples who are fond of attending party celebrations, Christmas markets and New Year parties. The drawback may be the crowd at the top vacation places and increased hotel rates during this month. It is suggested to plan your flights and hotel bookings three to four months ahead.
January is suitable for couples who want to escape the pre-holiday crowd. Most places are less crowded, except the mountain areas which tend to be colder. There might be snow in one or both months so verify the weather conditions before making reservations.

Your packing list will depend on where you are going. If you think about the weather when you go to pack you'll have a great time when you're there.
Carry some gloves, warm jacket, sunscreen, thermals, water-proof shoes and power bank before you leave. All of these items are helpful in times, when you really need to go out of your room and can't tolerate the Cold.
For beach destinations: Clothes that are lightweight cotton, swimwear, and a dry bag for your phone and others that you want to keep dry. Reef-safe sunscreen.
For hill stations and desert: Pack in layers. The weather may be warm during the day but can get quite cold at night, at the start and end of the day. Pack clothing accordingly.
And it's not just the destination that determines the cost of the trip. Your trip can also vary based on the hotel category, transport, activities, season and time of travel. You may be able to find budget hotels or lodges in places such as Chopta, Wayanad and Gokarna while there may be luxurious resorts in Gulmarg, the Andaman Islands and Udaipur. Check out our blog on the best season for a destination wedding.
Destination doesn't matter more than your dates and type of stay. Chopta, Wayanad, Gokarna and Manali are cheaper; Gulmarg, the Andamans and Udaipur are more expensive. When it comes to Christmas and New Year. Get permits done three to four months in advance; the rest of the year, a month or two should suffice. Tawang and the Rann should be done in early seasons; check your snow locations with care and be mindful of inclusions and rates. And this is where the best destination wedding planners in India come in. At Destination Wedding Bharat, we help you handle seamless logistics and negotiate exclusive resort perks and coordinate the transition from a group event to a private getaway! So what are you waiting for? Check out our website and plan your dream wedding today!
Gulmarg in Kashmir is the best destination for snow in India. The gondola climbs to the Apharwat ridge at about 3,900 m, and the slopes hold snow through most of winter. Manali and Auli follow close behind, and Tawang suits couples who don’t mind a long journey.

January is better if you want to travel in a less crowded time December brings the crowds from Christmas and New Year, along with higher prices. January is quieter once the holiday season subsides. Mountains are colder in January, and neither month promises snow.
Udaipur, Goa, Munnar and an Alleppey houseboat are the best options for 3 days. Since the airports and transfers in these places are just an hour or less away, you are travelling less and relaxing more. Isolated places such as Tawang, Auli and the Andamans are just not worth the time spent on transfers.

Three or four days suffice for closer destinations, with islands and distant hill towns requiring five to seven. Longer durations cope with ferry time and mountain weather, the main sources of disruption. Starting your trip easy is also a good idea.
3-4 days: Udaipur, Goa, Munnar, Darjeeling, Kerala backwaters
5-7 days: Andaman Islands, Tawang
Include a spare day for weather or ferries and we can work back from your dates.
Begin with the cancellation policies, then weather guarantee, transfers and heating. Winter weather can be unpredictable, so having a flexible booking allows you to sit back if there's a road closure or a delayed ferry.
